The Spring Hill College softball team split a conference road doubleheader with Belhaven College on Thursday, taking the first game 4-0 behind starter Lauren Crane's 2-hit shutout and falling 8-1 in the nightcap.
In the first game, Crane (5-4) baffled the second-leading scoring offense in the NAIA as she did not allowing a hit until 6th inning.  At the plate, Spring Hill thumped out 13 total hits with freshman Jessica Erickson going 3-for-4 including her first collegiate homer in the seventh inning.  Monica Zeringue, Lindsey Taylor and Nichol Struble each had two hits in the victory.
The second game saw Belhaven (34-15, 4-6 GCAC) score seven unearned runs in the second inning off SHC starter Brittany Abate (2-11) and reliever Samantha Brooks.  Abate allowed four hits while Brooks completed the game giving up just three more hits to the Blazers.
Spring Hill out hit the Blazers eight to seven, but did not score a run until the 5th inning when Taylor drove in Brooks with a sacrifice fly.  Zeringue was 2-for-3 in the nightcap as seven Badger batters collected hits.
Spring Hill (15-26, 4-6 GCAC) will host Thomas University (13-20) in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Murray Field on Friday.  The Lady Badgers will celebrate Senior Day as they wrap up the 2009 home season.
