Spring Hill College softball lost both ends of a doubleheader at the University of Mobile on Tuesday afternoon by the scores of 4-1 and 9-1.
Spring Hill took a 1-0 lead in the 5th inning with a solo homer to left by Jessica Whidden, but Mobile answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame when Jineth Pimentel ripped a 2-run double to right-center field. The Rams' Desiree Truett also drove in two runs with a double in the 6th inning to build out a 4-1 Mobile advantage.
Samantha Brooks (8-12) took the loss for the Badgers and allowed nine hits with three strikeouts and no walks in the complete-game effort. Leslie Pickette (21-3) was the winner for Mobile (31-10, 6-6 GCAC) allowing just four hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
The second game saw Mobile jump out to a quick 4-0 lead in the 1st inning and then add four more in the 4th inning to stake an 8-0 advantage. SHC scored in the bottom of the frame via a sacrifice squeeze bunt by Brittany Abate that scored Brooke Turlich from third base. Mobile ended the game in the bottom of the 5th inning with an unearned run to take a 9-1 "Mercy Rule" victory.
Turlich and Monica Zeringue each collected two hits for Badgers and Abate took the loss.
Spring Hill (15-30, 4-8 GCAC) will next play in the GCAC Tournament in Gulf Shores, Ala., on Friday versus William Carey University at 6 p.m.
