Xavier University of Louisiana won five matches without losing a game Friday and rolled to a 6-0 victory over Spring Hill in the semifinals of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament at Copeland-Cox Tennis Center.
The Gold Rush, No. 18 in the NAIA coaches poll, top-seeded in the tournament and a two-time defending champion, will play second-seeded Mobile at 6 p.m. Friday for the championship.
Xavier won all three doubles matches, then clinched the dual when freshman Steffen Giles-Osborn defeated Johnny Ngamvilay 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. The victory was Giles-Osborn's seventh in a row, a team best.
Also winning 6-0, 6-0 in singles were Cameron Knowles and Mario Myles. The Xavier teams of Mikhail Vaval-Matthew Walker and brothers Sean and Terry Richardson won 8-0 in doubles.
Spring Hill, the No. 4 seed, finished 3-8.
