The Spring Hill College men's golf team finished the 2009 season with a 3rd place finish out of the seven teams in the NAIA Qualifying Round at Raven Nest Golf Club in Huntsville, Texas. As a team, the Badgers shot a total of 895 for a +43 (299, 298, 298) score over the 6943-yard, 71-par course.
Individually, sophomores Eddie Smith of San Antonio, Texas, and Javier Portal of Miami, Fla., led the Badgers with scores of +9, 222 for a tie at 6th place out of 32 golfers. In 12th place, junior Will Loweth from Houston, Texas, carded a 224, +11. Senior Dan Thouvenot of St. Louis, Mo., wrapped up his career at Spring Hill with a +19, 232 as did sophomore Ricky Escobar from Miami who joined Thouvenot in 23rd position.
Texas Wesleyan won the event with a total score of +24 (299, 294, 283, 876) with the Rams' Kevin Doskocil also taking the individual title with a +2 score of 215 (76, 71, 68).
The University of Mobile's Nathan Rau was the top GCAC finisher with a score of +4 (71, 73, 73, 217) in 2nd place while UM finished in 7th position in the team scores with a +94 (316, 321, 309, 946).
