The Spring Hill College women's soccer team lost to No. 9 Northwood University (Fla.) on Sunday afternoon by the score of 4-0 at Library Field.
The first loss of the season for the Lady Badgers was not pretty as they could not find a way to match the overall team speed of the Seahawks.
Northwood (2-1) put Spring Hill in an early hole by scoring off a corner kick in only the second minute of the match. The ball never touched the ground as Katya Salguero headed the ball into the goal off a headed pass from Lina Karlsson who accepted the corner kick from Sofia Soras.
The score was 2-0 at the half following another Salguero goal in the 32nd minute, beating SHC keeper Emma Pitchford of Ridgeland, Miss., one-on-one with a goal into the lower right corner.
Salguero completed the natural hat trick with her third goal of the day in the 61st minute. This time she once again made the most of the one-on-one situation and again beat Pitchford to her right side.
Lisa Ohberg tacked on the Seahawks' fourth and final goal of the afternoon in the 67th minute as she cleaned up the rebound of her own blocked shot for a score.
Pitchford suffered her first loss of the season, but made five saves versus 14 NU shot attempts. On the other side of the field, Northwood's Mia Moeller made two saves versus just three SHC shot attempts.
Spring Hill (2-1) will next play at the University of West Florida on Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m. UWF is ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division II.
