The Spring Hill College women's soccer team lost to the No. 2 rated University of West Florida Argonauts 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the UWF Soccer Complex. UWF has outscored their first three opponents of the year 19-0.
UWF opened the scoring with a one-on-one goal by Shakira Duncan that found the lower right corner of the net in the 17th minute of the match.
The Badgers tried to hold down the high-powered Agros' offense by playing all 11 players back on defense for almost the entire first half. Even with the extra defenders, UWF (3-0) made the score 2-0 with a goal in the 27th minute when Marcella Franco slipped the ball into the net off a corner kick by Jordan Stone.
The second half opened with a headed goal by Monica Malavassi off another corner kick in the 54th minute. Jodi Galucci added a fourth goal in the 58th minute with a right-to-left shot that found the upper left corner. Shaneka Gordon then stitched in a fifth goal with a successful one-on-one effort in the 59th minute. Galucci slipped a high shot into the top right corner from a tight angle on the left side for the game's final goal in the 63rd minute.
Spring Hill's Emma Pitchford took her second loss of the season in goal, but put in a valiant effort making three saves versus 24 Argonaut shot attempts.
Courtney Jones and Lauren Byrd shared the shutout victory for UWF facing just one SHC shot attempt.
Spring Hill is now 0-16 all-time versus the Argonauts.
Spring Hill (2-2) will next host Nova Southeastern University on Sunday at 12 p.m. on Library Field.
