The Spring Hill College men's soccer team lost a home match to Mississippi College 2-1 on Monday afternoon on a goal with less than three minutes left on the clock.

The Choctaws (3-1) from Clinton, Miss., drew first blood in the first period when Julio Cesar Espinal drilled a shot past SHC junior keeper Cory Bronenkamp of St. Louis in the 40th minute of play.

The Badgers would answer back in the 56th minute when freshman Andy Poveda of Niceville, Fla., poked a lovely header past the MC keeper off a corner kick by sophomore Tyler King from Biloxi, Miss.

Both defenses took control from that point, but the Badgers would suffer a fatal mistake in the 87th minute when reserve goalkeeper Dan Criscione of St. Louis committed a foul by mistakenly picking up the ball after he had set it down to clear it from goal.  As a result of the foul, the Choctaws ran a set piece play less than 20 yards from goal in which Tyler Wade nudged the ball to Barry Prather who ripped the shot through the feet of the defensive wall and into the net past Criscione.

MC keeper Andrew Dailey made four saves against seven SHC shot attempts while Bronenkamp made two saves versus eight shots before leaving the game with an injury in the 51st minute.  Criscione made four saves against seven MC shot attempts.

Each team took just two corner kicks.

Spring Hill (0-5) will next play at the annual Thomas University Invitational on Friday in Thomasville, Ga., versus St. Thomas University (Fla.) beginning at 8 p.m.
