Men's Golf - Wed, Mar. 5, 2008

The 2008 Badger Invitational was a great success, despite golfers being challenged by stiff wind, overnight rainfall and even the threat of tornadic activity.

Thirteen men's teams and seven women's teams from Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Mississippi, Kentucky and North Carolina as well as local area teams from Baldwin and Mobile Counties participated.  Scores were abnormally high as winds reeked havoc in even the most polished swings. The winds were so intense at times that even putts were being blown offline.

Coach Steve Hodges was proud of his Spring Hill players saying, "Under the circumstances they did very well.  We are happy with our third place finishes.  It was nice to face William Carey again this year and get a reprieve on our earlier loss in Hattiesburg last semester.  Of course, we always consider it a thrill to play the University of Mobile and Faulkner State."

Several SHC freshmen had their first taste of college level competition. The weather was probably a blessing for them as it became hard to discern the culprit of a few errant shots, the wind or a case of nerves.  Meredith Haro played in her second tournament for the Lady Badgers and is constantly improving.  Kara Broderick also played in her second match and was able to improve over her first outing.  Anna Beykirch made a good first impression in her first match.  Jasmine Bowers snuck several drives out beyond her sister Shea's drives and won bragging rights at least in the Bower household.

The men's team gave it their best and did well to fall back four strokes as compared to being 12 strokes off the lead at the end of Day One.  Pat Whalen played in his first tournament and faired well as did Chris Angle, Ricardo Escobar, Dan Thouvenot and Sean Bockerstett.

The Spring Hill men's "A" team consisted of Eddie Smith, Patrick Jenkins, Will Loweth, David Lysaught and Javier Portal.
