Men's Soccer - Sat, Sep. 26, 2009
The Spring Hill College men's soccer team lost a 1-0 decision to NCAA Division 2 opponent Delta State University on Saturday in a rain-soaked match at Library Field.
Defense dominated the first period as neither team could dent the scoreboard, but Delta State broke the drought in the 69th minute when senior forward David Horstmann scored on a penalty kick for the Statesmen (3-5-1).
Spring Hill junior keeper Cory Bronenkamp of St. Louis, Mo., made six saves against 18 Delta State shot attempts while DSU freshman Flavio Romero made eight saves versus 12 SHC shot attempts in the shutout victory.
The Badgers were not without their chances, however, taking 16 corner kicks to just two for Delta State.
Spring Hill (0-8) will next host the University of St. Thomas (3-2-2) from Houston, Texas, beginning at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Library Field.
