The Spring Hill College women's soccer team opened its conference season with a 2-2 two-overtime tie with Belhaven College on Wednesday at Library Field.
After a scoreless first half, the Lady Blazers of Belhaven broke open the scoring with a breakaway goal by Christin Kaim in the 54th minute. Spring Hill answered back immediately in the 56th minute with a goal off a header by junior forward Lara Menke from Washington, Mo., with an assist by freshman midfielder Sarah Uptmor of Cape Girardeau, Mo.
In the 85th minute, Nicole Trawick gave Belhaven the lead again with a goal, but less than a minute later the Badgers responded with a goal by junior forward Jade Beason from Cincinnati, Ohio, following a mad scramble for the loose ball in front of the goal.
Two overtimes could not resolve the issue as the match ended in a 2-2 deadlock.
Junior SHC keeper Emma Pitchford of Ridgeland, Miss., made six saves versus 16 Belhaven shot attempts while the Blazers' Jessica Eggold made three saves against 11 Badger shot attempts.
Each team made seven corner kicks, but BC racked up 13 fouls and two yellow cards to just nine fouls by Spring Hill.
Spring Hill (4-4-1, 0-0-1 GCAC) will next host conference foe LSU-Shreveport (5-2-1, 0-0-0 GCAC) on Tuesday at 3 p.m. on Library Field.
