Sophomore Will Kirkikis of Kenner, La., ran the 4th best 4-mile time in Spring Hill College men's cross country history to pace the Badgers at the University of Southern Mississippi Open on Friday afternoon. Kirkikis finished with a time of 22:55.69 and finished in 4th place overall out of 37 runners.
The SHC men finished 3rd out of the five teams participating in the event, but 2nd among the NAIA competitors.
As a team, the Badgers' top five runners clocked a total time of 1:59:02.4 over the muddy 4-mile course and tallied a total of 47 points with an average time of 23:48.48.
Xavier University (La.) was the top GCAC finisher with a meet-winning time of 1:57:03.16. Belhaven finished 4th in 2:09:43.83.
Other SHC runners included freshman Thomas Kinsey (9th) from Fairhope (Ala.) High School, sophomore Brian Otero (12th) from Miami, Fla., at 24:06.90, freshman John Redman (13th) of Spanish Fort (Ala.) High School with a time of 24:09.22, senior Mark Kirkikis (14th) from Kenner at 24:14.65, freshman Ben Pace (17th) from Dallas, Texas, at 24:18.61, sophomore Christian Boyer (20th) from Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School at 25:06.63, sophomore Brandon Arquette of Greenville, S.C., at 25:07.84, freshman Garrett Schumacher (24th) from Spanish Fort High at 25:28.38, and junior Robbie Farrell (35th) from McGill-Toolen at 31:26.71.
SHC next runs at the University of Mobile Rampage, on Saturday, October 24.
