The Spring Hill College Badgers defeated Huntingdon College 2-1 in a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon.
Spring Hill freshman Rainer Mays of Nashville, Tenn., opened the scoring for the Badgers with a goal off an assist by sophomore Gable Fortune from St. Louis, Mo., in the 8th minute of the match.
Huntingdon's Josh Epstein tied the match in the 30th minute, but the Badgers stormed back in the 37th minute when Fortune electrified the crowd by executing a perfect bicycle-kick flip to score the winning goal.
Neither team could score in the second period, but Huntingdon (3-12) missed a golden opportunity when a header by Scott Best sailed just high of the crossbar with less than one minute remaining on the clock.
SHC keeper junior Cory Bronenkamp of St. Louis took the win in goal after making three saves versus eight shot-attempts while Jordan Osborn suffered the loss for the Hawks with three saves against 12 SHC shot-attempts.
Spring Hill (4-12, 1-2 GCAC) will next play its final conference match of the season at the University of Mobile (5-9, 1-2 GCAC) at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
