The Spring Hill College women's soccer team defeated the LSU-Shreveport Lady Pilots by a 1-0 score in the opening round of the GCAC Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at H.T. Newell Field in Jackson, Miss.
The Lady Badgers and the Lady Pilots battled through a scoreless first half and looked to be headed to an overtime decision when freshman Sara Uptmor accepted a crossing pass from sophomore Katie Pendergast and scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute.
Junior keeper Emma Pitchford took the win with two saves against just three LSUS shot-attempts while Torie Calhoun of LSUS faced 20 SHC shot-attempts and made six saves.
Spring Hill now advances to the GCAC semifinal round where they will meet No. 1 seed William Carey in Hattiesburg, Miss., on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
