Sophomore Will Kirkikis of Kenner, La., posted an 8-kilometer time of 29:31.30 and placed 6th of 53 runners while pacing the Badgers to a 2nd place finish at the 2009 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) Cross Country Championships at Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Miss.
As a team, the Badgers' placed four of the top 10 finishers and clocked a total time of 2:29:43.36 for a final score of 43 points and an average time of 29:56.68. GCAC Champions Xavier University (La.) scored 25 points and placed the top four runners at the event.
Other SHC scoring runners included sophomore Christian Boyer (7th) from Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School at 29:50.11, freshman John Redman (9th) of Spanish Fort (Ala.) High School with a time of 29:57.49, freshman Thomas Kinsey (10th) of Fairhope (Ala.) High School at 30:10.90, and sophomore Brian Otero (11th) from Miami, Fla., at 30:13.56.
Non-scoring runners for the Badgers included senior Austin Fox (12th) of Dothan, Ala., at 30:16.89, freshman Ben Pace (19th) from Dallas, Texas, at 31:03.17, junior Sean Christie (22nd) from New Orleans, La., at 31:19.75, senior Mark Kirkikis (23rd) from Kenner at 31:21.09, and freshman Garrett Schumacher (12 points) from Spanish Fort High at 31:38.29.
Following the event, Will Kirkikis, Boyer, Redman and Kinsey were recognized as All Conference performers by the GCAC coaches.
