The Spring Hill College men's basketball team opened the 2009-10 season with an 88-69 home win over Southeastern Bible College on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Badgers had six players reach the double-digit mark led by sophomore guard Chris Dees, Jr. of Picayune, Miss. and junior center Nick Brown of Rota, Spain with 17 points.  Senior guard Marcus Coleman of Wilmer, Ala. poured in 13 points and handed out a game-high nine assists.
 
The duo of sophomore guard Antonio Burch of Pontiac, Mich. and senior forward Owen McNally from Long Beach, Miss. each contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Badgers' first double-doubles of the year.  Junior Greg Gardner of Long Beach added 10 points off the bench.
 
As a team, the Badgers out-rebounded the Sabers (0-2) by a 54 to 37 margin and out-shot the visitors 48.6% (34-70) to 28.4% (19-67). 
 
From the 3-point arc the Badgers suffered an unusually dry night making just three of 11 shots (27.3%) with each of made shots coming from Coleman.  The Sabers made seven of 33 attempts (21.2%).
 
The Badgers (1-0) return to action on Monday night with a non-conference match versus NAIA No. 20 Auburn-Montgomery (1-1) at 7 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
