Women's Basketball - Thu, Nov. 12, 2009
The Spring Hill College women's basketball team opened the 2009-10 season with a 62-49 home loss to NAIA Preseason No. 22 Auburn University Montgomery on Thursday night at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.

AUM (2-3) jumped out to a 10-0 lead early in the contest and Spring Hill was never able to cut the lead down further than five points at any point despite several ferocious comeback attempts.

Spring Hill's junior center Kimarie Bock of Dunedin, Fla., scored a team-high 19 points with four rebounds but the AUM 6-foot-plus trio of center Cassie Moore, and forwards Melanie Gess and Caitlin Cunningham proved to be too much on the inside for the Lady Badgers.

Moore ended with 20 points and eight rebounds while Gess closed with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Cunningham added four points and eight rebounds for the Lady Senators.

As a team, AUM out-rebounded SHC 48 to 30, but the quick hands of the SHC defense forced AUM into 23 turnovers off 11 steals while surrendering 15 turnovers on offense.

SHC shot 27.9% from the field (17-61) and 23.8% (5-21) from 3-point land.  AUM earned 42.1% (24-57) overall and just two of 14 (14.3%) from 3-point range.
Spring Hill (0-1) now travels to Henderson, Tenn., on Saturday to face NAIA Preseason No. 6 Freed-Hardeman University (2-0) at 1 p.m.
