The Spring Hill College volleyball team opened pool play at the 2009 GCAC Volleyball Tournament with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-16) loss to the host University of Mobile Lady Rams on Thursday morning at Pharr Gymnasium.

Spring Hill junior outside hitter Cassandra Marchand of Grand Bay, Ala., led the Badgers with eight kills while senior libero Missy Williams from Fairhope High School recorded 14 digs and a service ace.  Sophomore setter Sally Reese of Murfreesboro, Tenn., handed out 13 assists and senior middle blocker Maura O'Callaghan from Breezy Point, N.Y., issued three total blocks.

Spring Hill College (8-15) next plays Dillard University (10-11) at 5 p.m. tonight in the final round of play in Pool A.  The winner will advance to tomorrow's semifinal round at noon.
