The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that Spring Hill College senior runner Austin Fox of Dothan, Ala., has been named a 2009 Daktronics-NAIA Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete.
Fox, a Biology major, returned to the SHC team this fall after he sat out the 2008 season with an injury and finished 12th at the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) Championships in Clinton, Miss., with an 8-kilometer time of 30:16.89.
Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify. This season a total of 170 men's cross country runners were awarded the honor by the NAIA.
Fox marks the 92nd Spring Hill College athlete to win Scholar Athlete recognition.
