The Spring Hill College women's basketball team struggled to a 91-50 non-conference loss at Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) on Wednesday afternoon.
AUM opened up a 10-point lead at 13-3 just six and a half minutes into the game and never looked back taking a 42-20 advantage into the halftime locker rooms. At the break, the Lady Senators were shooting 50% (16-32) while the Lady Badgers stood at just 23.1% (6-26).
In the second half, AUM stretched its advantage to 31 points with 8:45 remaining and coasted to a 91-50 final score. SHC scored more points from the free throw line (16) in the second half than they did from the field (14).
Kristin Rogers scored 11 points and Robynetta Hargrave added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Badgers.
AUM was paced by Kala Smith and Carlie Ainsworth with 14 points apiece as five Lady Senators reached double digits in scoring. Smith also had eight rebounds for AUM.
As a team, Spring Hill shot 25% (13-52) overall and 12.5% (2-16) from 3-point range. AUM shot 50.7% (34-67) from the field and made 6 of 12 shots (50%) from beyond the 3-point line.
On defense, the Lady Senators (6-7) took down 32 rebounds while SHC corralled 23 boards. AUM forced the Badgers into 25 turnovers off 13 steals while Spring Hill took away 6 steals off 16 AUM turnovers.
Spring Hill (1-8) will next face non-conference foe Concordia College-Selma in Selma, Ala., on Monday at 5 p.m.
