The Spring Hill College women's basketball team saw their second half woes continue on Saturday night as the Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) Lady Knights took a 76-57 conference victory away from the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
The Lady Badgers were slow from the blocks in the first half as they allowed the Lady Knights to build out an 11-1 advantage before SHC hit its first field goal of the game five minutes into the contest.
Spring Hill rallied over the next five minutes to cut the SUNO (6-1, 1-1 GCAC) lead to 17-12, but could not maintain the momentum. SUNO outscored SHC 18-12 over the next 10 minutes to take a 35-24 bulge into the intermission.
The second half saw Spring Hill's shooting grow even colder as SUNO built out a 22-point lead en route to a 76-57 final score.
Three Lady Badgers broke into double-digits in scoring on the night as freshman guard Kristin Rogers scored 17 points and junior forward Lynleigh Hughes added 15 points. Senior Robynetta Hargrave put 13 points in the baskets and pulled in a game-high 11 rebounds.
SUNO was led by LaTiondra Smith's 21 points and seven rebounds.
Overall, the Badgers were 20-53 (37.7%) from the field and just 1-7 (14.3%) from 3-point distance. SUNO made 30 of their 58 shots (51.7%) and hit four of their nine (44.4%) 3-point attempts.
The Lady Badgers out rebounded SUNO 38-35 with 19 offensive rebounds, but could only convert them into eight second-chance points. SHC committed 24 turnovers in the face of 13 SUNO steals while taking away seven steals and forcing a total of 15 turnovers.
