The Spring Hill College women's basketball team lost an 82-41 decision to the Loyola University Wolfpack on Thursday evening at The Den.
Spring Hill missed its first six shots of the game and quickly fell down 8-0 just three minutes into the contest. Loyola's outside shooting and strong inside game then proceeded to dig the Badgers into a 20-point hole at 27-7 with nine minutes left in the half. By the intermission, Loyola held a 44-21 advantage.
By the 5-minute mark in the second half, Loyola had gone on a 16-2 run out of the locker rooms and built a 60-24 lead. From there, the Wolfpack maintained a 40-point cushion for the remainder of the game.
Freshman Kristin Rogers of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., had 12 points for the Badgers and junior forward Lynleigh Hughes added 10 points and six rebounds.
Loyola (11-7, 5-3 GCAC) was led by Trenese Smith and Rachael Nolan with 20 points apiece while Lauren Pryer added 16 points and seven rebounds.
Overall, the Lady Badgers were 15-55 (27.3%) from the field and 1-of-11 (9.1%) from 3-point distance. Loyola was 29-59 (49.2%) from the field and 8-20 (40%) from beyond the arc.
SHC was out-rebounded 49-31 and committed 21 turnovers. The Loyola defense took away 14 steals from the Badgers while Spring Hill pocketed 11 steals and benefited from 16 LU turnovers.
Spring Hill (2-16, 0-8 GCAC) will next visit archrival the University of Mobile (11-7, 3-5 GCAC) on Saturday at 5 p.m.
