The Spring Hill College baseball team swept a conference doubleheader from the Tougaloo College Bulldogs by the scores of 9-2 and 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at historic Stan Galle Field.
 
In the first game, the Badgers fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, but exploded for a 6-run fourth inning that was capped by a 2-run homer to left by junior first baseman Brad Holstein.
 
Spring Hill (4-1, 4-1 GCAC) added a run in the fifth and tacked on two more in the sixth for the 9-2 victory.
 
Sophomore shortstop Ryan Cummings was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and left fielder Andy McCall also collected two hits for the Badgers.  Henry Green had two hits for the visiting Bulldogs (0-2, 0-2 GCAC).
 
On the mound, David Dupuy (1-0) took the win with 6 innings of work allowing just one earned run off five hits with a walk and three strikeouts.  Matthew Scott (0-1) was the loser in 3.2 innings of work allowing three earned runs off seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
 
The second game saw the Badgers jump out to an early 4-0 lead as their first four batters of the game hit safely.
 
Senior right fielder Ryan Hall was 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored.  Senior centerfielder Justin Harrison and Cummings each had two hits and two RBI.  Senior third baseman Blake Nelson and McCall also had two hits in the game.  All told, the Badgers pounded out 14 hits in the nightcap.
 
Hall's triple was the eighth of his career, setting a new career mark for 3-base hits by a Badger.
 
William Walker was 3-for-4 with a double for the Bulldogs.
 
Josh Essington (1-1) went a strong seven innings with eight strikeout and no walks, scattering six hits.  Jeff Keenum closed the game with a solid two innings of work allowing two hits with a strikeout in the 7-0 shutout.
 
Spring Hill and Tougaloo will wrap up the 3-game series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m. on Stan Galle Field.
