The Spring Hill College women's basketball team lost a 64-60 conference decision to William Carey University on Saturday evening in Hattiesburg, Miss.
The Badgers led 30-26 at the halftime intermission, but poor free throw shooting would prove their downfall in the second half as the Lady Crusaders stormed back for the 64-60 win. The Badgers made just 55.2% (16-29) of their free throws for the game while WCU made 14-18 (77.8%) from the charity stripe.
Jackie Higgenbotham led Spring Hill with 16 points Kristin Rogers and Lynleigh Hughes each had 11 points. Kristi Ybarra contributed 10 points to the Badger cause.
Carey (12-9, 8-3 GCAC) was led by Consuela Tucker with 21 points while Hope Swindle added 10 points for the Crusaders.
SHC shot 39.1% (18-46) from the field and 47.1% (8-17) from 3-point land while Carey knocked in 40.7% (25-54) of their shots and 27.3% (6-22) of their 3-pointers.
The Badgers out-rebounded William Carey 38-33, but Spring Hill committed 15 turnovers while Carey fumbled the ball 14 times.
Spring Hill (2-19, 0-11 GCAC) will next travel to the Crescent City to face the Lady Knights (10-7, 4-7 GCAC) of Southern University in New Orleans (SUNO) on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in "The Castle."
