The Spring Hill College men's basketball team dropped their sixth consecutive game with a 62-54 loss at conference foe Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) on Monday night in "The Castle."
SUNO (9-11, 4-8 GCAC) held a 25-22 lead at the halftime break, but Spring Hill answered the second-half bell by tying the game at 32 apiece just 2½ minutes into the frame. The Knights responded to the challenge with a 7-0 run to build out a 39-32 bulge for the home team.
Throughout the second half the Knights frustrated the Badgers as every time SHC found ways to cut into the SUNO lead, the Knights would answer with a basket or two free throws of their own on the other end.
With 3:41 showing on the clock senior guard Marcus Coleman of Wilmer, Ala., buried two Badger free-throws to make the score 53-47 in favor of SUNO, but poor rebounding by the Badgers and accurate shooting by the Knights resulted in a 57-47 score with less than two minutes remaining.
Spring Hill was led by junior center Nick Brown with 16 points while Coleman pitched in 12 points and forward Owen McNally contributed 11 points.
Brent Leduff and Lionel Green each scored 18 points for the Knights.
The Badgers shot 43.2% (16-37) from the field and 25% (3-12) from 3-point range. SUNO was 20-of-53 (37.7%) overall and 3-of-10 for (30%) in 3-point attempts.
Spring Hill (10-11, 4-8 GCAC) will travel to Jackson, Miss, on Thursday to face the No. 25 ranked Bulldogs of Tougaloo College (16-6, 7-5 GCAC) at 7:30 p.m.
