The Spring Hill College softball team opened the 2010 home season with an exhibition doubleheader split versus Northwest Florida State College at Murray Field on Thursday afternoon.  SHC took the first contest 5-2 and fell 5-2 in the nightcap.
Starter Samantha Brooks picked up the win in Game 1 with five solid innings of work giving up no runs off four hits with three strikeouts and two walks.  Lauren Crane allowed both an earned and unearned run in two innings of work, but gave up just three hits with a strikeout and no walks.
At the plate the Badgers pounded out seven hits including a solo homer to left field by catcher Brooke Turlich in the sixth inning.  Leadoff hitter shortstop Monica Zeringue had two hits with a double and a run scored.
SHC starter Brittany Abate fell behind 2-0 after the first inning as the Raiders (7-1) from Niceville, Fla., rebounded in the second game to take a 5-2 win.
Spring Hill College opens the 2010 regular season on Friday at the Faulkner University Tournament in Montgomery, Ala., versus No. 22 AUM (2-0) at 9 a.m.
