The Spring Hill College baseball team finished a 3-game conference series sweep of Loyola University at Segnette Field by taking a doubleheader with the scores of 10-4 and 12-7 on Saturday afternoon.
 
In the first game, Brad Holstein broke a 4-4 tie with a 2-run homer to start a 6-run 7th inning as the Badgers won 10-4.
 
Sophomore shortstop and closer Ryan Cummings (1-0) entered in the 6th for Spring Hill and retired all four hitters that he faced.  He was 3-for-4 with two RBI at the plate and accounted for one of three Badger homeruns in the 7th inning.  Holstein went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
 
For Loyola, Carl Labit (0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief, giving up four runs on five hits in an inning of work.  Kevin Fontenot and Brooks McMinn each had two hits for the Wolfpack.
 
In the nightcap, Holstein hit his second go-ahead homer to lead the Badgers to victory.  The Badger first baseman gave Spring Hill a lead in the top of the 11th with another two run homer as SHC downed Loyola 12-7 in extra innings.
 
Lawrence Trunk (1-0) got the win in relief going two innings.  He walked two and forced two Wolfpack double plays.  Cummings led at the plate with four hits and three runs scored.
 
Kevin Fontenot (0-1) was tagged with the loss for Loyola (3-6, 3-6 GCAC).  He went four innings and struck out three.  Ryan Scott, Caleb Templet and McMinn each had two hits each for the Wolfpack.
 
The wins move Spring Hill into an early lead in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference standings with a 2-game lead over No. 14 ranked William Carey University.
 
Spring Hill (8-2, 8-1 GCAC) will next visit Concordia College-Selma for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
