The Spring Hill College baseball team swept a doubleheader from Selma University on Tuesday afternoon by the scores of 10-5 and 13-3 at Stan Galle Field.
The first game saw the Badgers blow open a 1-1 tie in the 2nd inning with a 6-run, 5-hit outburst capped by a 2-RBI double into right-center off the bat of shortstop Ryan Cummings.
Spring Hill added two more runs in the 5th frame off RBIs by second baseman Bobby Voss and centerfielder Ryan Hall.
Senior Mike Scanio (2-0) took home the complete game victory allowing just three earned runs off of four hits with eight strikeouts and a walk.
At the plate, the Badgers ripped out 12 hits led by right fielder Blake Nelson's 3-for-4 effort. Third baseman Brad Holstein, designated hitter Kendall Carvin and first baseman John Hollingworth each collected a pair of hits while Hall and Cummings both tallied 3-RBI performances.
For Selma, Cameron Hooper took the loss with 10 hits six walks and a strikeout. Right fielder Curtis Williams had a hit and two RBI for the Bulldogs.
In the second game, SHC showed no mercy as they piled on a 4-run 3rd inning and a 7-run 4th inning en route to a 13-3 thrashing of the Bulldogs in a game stopped by the 10-run Mercy Rule in the 6th inning.
Freshman James Maughn (2-0) went five innings for the win allowing just five hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Left fielder Andy McCall had two hits with a triple while Hall added two hits along with Cummings' pair that included a double.
Spring Hill (12-5, 8-1 GCAC) will travel to Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson, Miss., this weekend to play Belhaven University (11-3, 6-2 GCAC) in a 3-game conference series starting with the single game on Friday at 6 p.m. and the doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
