Spring Hill College junior Brittany Abate (2-0) from Lake Charles, La., struck out nine batters, allowed two infield ground-outs, three infield pop-ups, and one fly ball to centerfield on her way to pitching a perfect game versus Dillard University in the first game of a doubleheader sweep of the Lady Bleu Devils by the scores of 19-0 and 18-1 on Friday afternoon on Murray Field.
At the plate in the first game, the Badgers pounded out 20 hits led by junior right fielder Ersy Pacheco who claimed a 4-for-4 outing with two doubles, a homerun and five RBI. Junior catcher Brooke Turlich collected three hits, three RBI and two stolen bases.
The second game saw the Badgers jump out to an 8-0 lead after the 1st inning and then cruise to an 18-1 win behind the arm of sophomore Lauren Crane (1-2) of Houma, La., who allowed one unearned run, one hit, two walks and six strikeouts.
Junior Samantha Brooks of Belle Chasse, La., had four hits with a double, a triple and two RBI for the Badgers in the nightcap while freshman Mallory Sullivan from Citronelle High School blasted three doubles for three RBI. Crane helped out her own cause with a double, triple and two RBI as SHC added 19 more hits to their day's effort.
Alexis Billot took the first game's loss while Brittney Collura was the loser in game 2 for Dillard (0-8, 0-8 GCAC).
Spring Hill (5-6, 2-0 GCAC) will face Lindsey Wilson College in a doubleheader at the University of Mobile on Sunday at 11 a.m.
