The Spring Hill College Badgers defeated the Lyon College Scots by a score of 10-6 on Monday night at Stan Galle Field.

SHC took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning off an RBI single by sophomore Ryan Cummings, but the floodgates opened for the Badgers with a 7-run 4th inning in which Spring Hill ripped out seven hits including a 2-run double by second baseman Pat O'Malley.

Lyon (8-6) answered right back with six runs in the 5th inning, however, following a 2-out error by O'Malley that left the door open for the Scots. Kody Pinson delivered a 3-run double followed by third baseman Aaron Thornton's towering 2-run homer to right field.

The Badgers tacked on insurance runs in the 5th and 6th innings to build out a 10-6 advantage.

Junior Joe Carter (2-1) of Theodore, Ala., was the winner giving up no earned runs in 6.2 innings of work, nine hits, two walks and five strikeouts.  Josh Essington completed the game, going 2.1 innings and allowing just two hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

With a team total of 13 hits, five Badgers enjoyed 2-hit nights with Ryan Hall, Blake Nelson and O'Malley also collecting two RBI each.

Lyon starter Nick Salahub (4-2) took the loss lasting 3.1 innings and allowing five runs off eight hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Cory Ford, Evan Segler and Thorton each had two hits for the Scots.

Spring Hill (13-8, 8-4 GCAC) will host archrival the University of Mobile in a 3-game conference series this weekend at Stan Galle Field beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday with a single game and concluding with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
