The Spring Hill College softball team took victories in two games at the opening day of the Thomas University Invitational on Friday. The Badgers defeated host Thomas University 4-2 and then closed the day with a 7-5 come-from-behind decision over LSU-Alexandria.
In the first game against the Night Hawks (8-20), catcher Brooke Turlich and right fielder Ersy Pacheco both claimed 2-for-4 performances at the plate while freshman Mallory Sullivan of Citronelle High School pounded out a 2-for-3 showing.
Starter Sam Brooks (5-8) scattered seven hits and struck out two in the win.
In the second game, SHC shortstop Monica Zeringue ended the game with a 2-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the 7th to give the Badgers the 7-5 victory.
Pacheco notched her third and fourth homers of the year in consecutive at bats for the Badgers while Turlich and Brittany Abate each added hits to the SHC cause.
Abate pitched 6.2 innings for the no-decision while Lauren Crane (2-4) picked up the win in relief and faced just one LSUA (3-19) batter.
Spring Hill (10-13) will continue play in the tournament with a rematch versus LSUA on Saturday at 10 a.m.
