A 5-run 8th inning by Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) gave the Senators a 9-4 non-conference victory over Spring Hill College at the AUM Baseball Complex on Tuesday night.
AUM (24-17) rallied from a 4-3 deficit in the bottom of the 7th inning when catcher Michael Dugan lifted an RBI single to right field to tie the game at 4-4 off SHC reliever Tony Mattera (0-2).
In the 8th, the Badger bullpen allowed five runs off six hits with the big blows coming in the form of an RBI single by Bruce Alter to break the deadlock at 5-4 in favor of AUM and a 2-run single to left-center by pinch hitter Will Sellers to finish the comeback at 9-4.
SHC starter Mike Scanio went five solid innings and led 4-2 before giving up a solo homer to Sam Judah to lead off the AUM half of the 6th inning and relinquishing the mound to Mattera.
Ben Francis (3-1) was the winner in relief for AUM working 3.1 innings with two hits, two walks and a strikeout.
At the plate, the Badgers' Ryan Cummings continued to be one of the hottest hitters in the NAIA going 3-for-4 with an RBI while Ryan Hall and Justin Harrison each collected two hits. Designated hitter Kendal Carvin also stayed hot for SHC with a single and two RBI.
AUM finished with 16 total hits led by Judah's 3-for-4, 2-RBI night. Dugan also contributed three hits and an RBI to the Senators while Matt Arrighi, Justin Williams and Todd Cherry had two hits each.
