SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Spring Hill College women's soccer team lost a non-conference road match to SCAD-Savannah 5-1 on Monday afternoon.
SCAD (2-1) opened the scoring in the 5th minute of play when freshman Nina Gonzalez of Miami, Fla., punched her first goal of the season past SHC keeper senior Emma Pitchford of Ridgeland, Miss.
Junior Megan Jurcak from Hudson, Ohio, made the score 2-0 in favor of the home-standing Bees with a goal in the 38th minute. By halftime, the defense-dominated period saw both teams with only four shots apiece.
In the 52nd minute, SCAD added a third goal off the foot of junior Lauren O'Malley of San Antonio, Texas, and Katelyn LeRoux, a sophomore from Rothwell, Queensland, Australia, tallied a fourth goal for SCAD in the 69th minute.
Sophomore Sarah Uptmor of Cape Girardeau, Mo., put SHC on the board with a goal off an assist from junior Abby Galen of St. Louis, Mo., to make the score 4-1 in the 75th minute.
SCAD closed out the scoring in the 87th minute with a goal by freshman Grace Bresenham of Madison, Wis.
Spring Hill took 11 total shots including four on goal while SCAD pounded out 17 shots with 11 on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Ciara Thomas from Lexington, Ky., made three saves for SCAD.
Spring Hill (0-3) next travels to Montgomery, Ala., on September 7 to face NCAA Division 1 foe Alabama State University (0-3) starting at 7 p.m.
