The Spring Hill College men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to the University of West Florida Argonauts on Thursday night at Library Field.
After 30 minutes in which SHC did a good job of controlling possession and the game tempo, UWF (1-0) opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Andre Verardi scored off assists by Richard Dixon and Sean Reynolds. The backbreaker, however, came just a minute and 25 seconds later in the 33rd minute as the Argos' Matthew Aldred put a second goal in net off a corner kick by Jimmy Merritt that was then slipped to Aldred by Bruno Ferreira.
Aldred would find another goal to make the final score 3-0 in the 52nd minute when he ripped a pass from Marquel Waldron just under the crossbar and over the hand of SHC keeper Cory Bronenkamp of St. Louis, Mo.
After a first half that saw the shots even a six each, UWF commanded the second period outshooting SHC 11 to three.
Bronenkamp made three saves for Spring Hill while UWF keeper Elliot Purdom collected one save. The Argos took eight corners while the Badgers managed just one kick from the corner.
SHC (0-2) next will host Talladega College at Library Field in a non-conference match at 5 p.m. on Monday.
