METAIRIE, La. - The Spring Hill College men's cross country team opened the 2010 season on Saturday morning at the Radisson Hotel Wolfpack Classic hosted by Loyola University (La.) at Lafreniere Park with a 2nd place finish out of seven participating teams.
As a team, the Badgers scored 47 points and came up just shy of Xavier University (La.) who won the event with 42 points.
SHC averaged 18:27.67 over the 5-kilometer course and finished in a total team time of 92:18.35.
Junior Will Kirkikis of Kenner, La., was the top SHC finisher with a 4th place finish out of 53 runners in a time of 17:41.23 while freshman Brennan Gaffney of St. Louis, Mo., finished in 8th position in 18:19.32.
Sophomore Thomas Kinsey of Fairhope also scored for the Badgers with a 9th place finish in a time of 18:24.50. Junior Brandon Arquette of Greenville, S.C., was in 17th place at 18:55.08 and Eric Mooney closed right behind him in 18th place at 18:58.22 to close out the SHC scoring.
Junior Christian Boyer of Mobile's McGill-Toolen finished in 23rd place at 19:24.67 and freshman Fritz Boudreaux of Pensacola, Fla., was 24th in a time of 19:31.83.
The Badgers next run on Saturday at the Azalea City Classic hosted by the University of South Alabama in Mobile at 9:55 a.m.
