METAIRIE, La. - The Spring Hill College women's cross country team opened the 2010 season on Saturday morning at the Radisson Hotel Wolfpack Classic hosted by Loyola University (La.) at Lafreniere Park with a 2nd place finish out of eight participating teams.
As a team, the Badgers scored 57 points and were behind only Loyola University (La.) who won the event with 28 points.
SHC averaged 22:33.29 over the 5-kilometer course and finished in a total team time of 112:46.44.
Sophomore Melissa Menendez, was the top SHC finisher with a 7th place finish out of 61 runners in a time of 21:31.30 while sophomore Payton Tanner of Fairhope, Ala., finished in 8th position in 21:36.90.
Senior Ceci Venker of St. Louis, Mo., also scored for the Badgers with a 16th place finish in a time of 22:54.18. Freshman Emily Dolan of Mobile's McGill-Toolen was in 20th place at 23:10.12 and junior Lynne Fritscher of Covington, La., closed in 24th place at 23:41.67 to wrap up the SHC scoring.
Other runners for SHC were junior Emily Stewart of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., who finished in 26th place at 23:41.67; freshman Claire Stewart of Mt. Juliet was 33rd in a time of 25:21.38; sophomore Rebecca Pol of Alpharetta, Ga., was 34th at 25:23.97; sophomore Kierstan Carter of Mobile's Murphy High was 35th at 25:47.82; freshman Emily Hill of Pensacola, Fla., was 36th at 27:11.44; and freshman Anna DeWine of Cedarville, Ohio, was 37th at 27:17.22.
The Badgers next run on Saturday at the Azalea City Classic hosted by the University of South Alabama in Mobile at 10:30 a.m.
