MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Spring Hill College men's golf team finished in 8th place out of 12 teams at the close of the final round in the Alabama State University Fall Golf Classic at Lagoon Park.
SHC shot a two-round team score of +52 (311, 317, 628) to finish 35 strokes back of Tournament Champion and host Alabama State that carded a +17 (299, 294, 593).
Individually, senior Eddie Smith of Houston, Texas, shot a +9 (75, 78, 153) over the 6850-yard, par 72 course to finish in 19th place while senior Ricky Escobar of Miami, Fla., shot +15 (75, 84, 159) for 35th place.
Sophomore Joseph Webster of Trussville, Ala., (78, 82, 160) and senior Javier Portal of Miami (84, 76, 160) both closed with scores of +16 to tie for 37th place out of 65 golfers. Junior Wyatt Esteves of New Orleans, La., was +20 (83, 81, 164) for 47th position.
The SHC "Team B" also placed 10th in the event with a score of +55 (324, 307, 631). Senior Chris Coleman of Mobile's McGill-Toolen recorded a score of +12 (83, 73, 156) for 25th place individually.
Sophomore Nathan Ceille of Hales Corner, Wis., and freshman Philip Dugan of Lake Forrest, Ill., finished with identical scores of +14 (80, 78, 158) to tie for 30th place and senior Pat Whalen from Rockville, Md., put a +16 (81, 79, 160) on the board for 37th place. Junior John Sabio of St. Louis, Mo., closed out the tournament with a +22 (88, 78) in 51st position.
Spring Hill's men will next play at the NAIA National Preview held at the TPC Club at Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., on October 14-15.
