The Spring Hill College women's soccer team took a 2-1 loss to the Shorter University Lady Hawks at Library Field on Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Shorter (3-6) broke the ice on the scoreboard in the 51st minute with a goal by Kelli Davis off an entry pass by Brandi Greenwald.
Spring Hill, however, rallied to the challenge and tied the game in the 77th minute with a goal headed in by sophomore Sarah Uptmor of Cape Girardeau, Mo., off an assist by sophomore Jade Beason of Cincinnati, Ohio.
The deciding goal came in the 88th minute when Shorter's Rachel Wood lifted a corner kick into the front of the goal that Badger goalkeeper Emma Pitchford of Ridgeland, Miss., dropped resulting in the ball bouncing into the net.
Pitchford made seven saves against 12 Shorter shots while Taylor Hays made five saves for Shorter against 15 Badger shots. Shorter took five corner kicks and SHC took just one.
Spring Hill (3-7) will next travel to Florence, Ala., to face NCAA Division 2 opponent the University of North Alabama (7-2) on Friday at 7 p.m.
