MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Spring Hill College volleyball won its 12th and 13th consecutive matches on Saturday with wins over Martin Methodist College and Asbury University by twin 3-0 decisions at the Faulkner University Invitational.
In the win over Martin Methodist (11-14), junior Yiting Cao of Shanghai, China, tallied 11 kills while freshman Taryn Nash from Independence, Mo., distributed 31 assists as the Badgers won 25-18, 25-21, 25-11.
Freshman libero Meredith Donald of Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School pulled in 17 digs and served two aces digs and freshman Sha Sha Buchanan of McGill-Toolen bagged three blocks.
In the final match of the two-day event, the Badgers faced a formidable Asbury University squad that boasted a gaudy 20-1 record entering the contest. The Badgers, however, were less than impressed and took down the Eagles (20-2) in straight sets 25-19, 29-27, 25-11.
Cao, the tournament's MVP, racked up 16 kills against Asbury while junior Abbey Roam of Lebanon, Mo., Nash and Donald each had 12 digs.
Buchanan continued to be a brick wall on the front line with four more blocks and Badger setter Nash dealt out 34 assists to her teammates.
Spring Hill (18-2) will be back in Montgomery on Tuesday at 6 p.m. to face Huntingdon College (11-11). SHC defeated the Hawks in Mobile earlier this season by the scores 25-6, 25-22, 25-13.
