SELMA, Ala. - The Spring Hill College men's soccer team lost dropped a 4-1 non-conference decision to Concordia College-Selma on Sunday afternoon.
Concordia opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a successful penalty kick by Bryan Arneaud that was awarded following a handball in the box by the Badgers.
The Hornets' Chuvalos George then added a second goal at the 29 minute mark by dribbling the ball up the middle of the box and slipping a score past SHC keeper senior Cory Bronenkamp of St. Louis, Mo.
Hyron Browne-Baptiste tacked on a third goal for Concordia in the 38th minute when he used a defensive screen to hide his shot from Bronenkamp and connected from 20 yards out at the top of the box.
SHC freshman Patrick Culotta of New Orleans, La., broke the scoring ice for the Badgers in the 87th minute when senior Devon Arnold of Mobile's W.P. Davidson High fed him a nice entry pass.
The Hornets, however, answered right back in the final minute when reserve forward Kurt Newton came off the bench and punched in a goal off a shot deflected by Bronenkamp to make the final 4-1 score.
Bronenkamp closed out the contest with two saves off 13 Concordia shots and Akil Benjamin made four saves for Concordia against 15 Badger shots.
Each team took three corner kicks, but Concordia amassed 22 fouls including two yellow cards while SHC had nine fouls with one yellow card.
The Badgers (2-8-1, 0-0 SSAC) will host Auburn-Montgomery (6-5-2, 0-0 SSAC) on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Library Field in the conference opener for both teams.
