BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Spring Hill College women's golf team placed 9th place out of 17 teams after the final round of the Southern Shootout hosted by Birmingham-Southern College at Highland Park Golf Course on Monday.
SHC shaved 25 strokes off last week's effort in Georgia and closed with a two-round team score of +95 (322, 333, 655) over the 70-par, 5801-yard course to finish 54 strokes back of tournament champion Columbus State University who held a final score of +41 (296, 305, 601).
Individually, freshman Avery Kyle, of Frisco, Texas, continues to impress in her young college career and shot a +15 (78, 77, 155) to finish in 14th place out of 92 golfers while senior Vickie Gonzalez of Miami, Fla., cared a +20 score (76, 84, 160) for 25th position.
Freshman Audrey Dombrowski of St. Louis, Mo., placed 37th with a +24 score (83, 81, 164) and freshman Katie Callahan from Prairie Village, Kan., closed in 66th position with +36 (85, 91, 176).
Freshman Elena Hall from Mobile's Faith Academy carded a +38 (86, 92, 178) to finish 69th, but managed to take seven strokes off her previous week's score.
Spring Hill will next compete October 24-26 at the NAIA Women's National Preview at Links Hill Country Club in Greeneville, Tenn.
