The 21st rated Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) women's soccer team proved to be too much for the Spring Hill women on Tuesday afternoon as the Lady Senators won 4-1 on Library Field.
Forward Amber Elam opened the scoring for AUM (9-4, 1-0 SSAC) in the 10th minute when she took a breakaway the distance and scored off a 1-on-1 opportunity past SHC starting keeper Emma Pitchford of Ridgeland, Miss.
Three minutes later AUM went up 2-0 when the Senators' Erica Padula cleaned up a rebounded ball off a Pitchford save of a Jana Yates shot and poked the ball into the goal.
Margret Albertsdottir made a nifty header in the 30th minute off a corner kick by Helga Franklinsdottir to stake AUM to a 3-0 halftime advantage.
The Badgers rebounded in the 66th minute and cut the lead down to 3-1 when senior Kasey Pruett of Flower Mound, Texas, made a brilliant entry pass to freshman Molly Cowley of Jefferson City, Mo., who promptly drilled the score into the back of the goal.
AUM, however, would respond in the 82nd minute with a goal by Amber Elam off a free kick following a Badger penalty.
Pitchford and freshman goal keeper Cassandra Amore of Pace, Fla., combined for five saves against 18 AUM shots while Margaret Ingthorsdottir made two saves for the Senators versus just five SHC shots.
AUM took seven corner kick opportunites and SHC had two attempts from the corner.
Spring Hill (4-9, 0-1 SSAC) will host Belhaven University (1-9-1, 0-1 SSAC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. on Library Field.
