The Spring Hill College women's soccer team bounced back from a conference opening loss earlier in the week to rout Belhaven University by a score of 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Library Field.
After a scoreless first half, senior SHC team captain Jade Beason of Cincinnati, Ohio, opened the scoring in the 46th minute off an assist by freshman Erin Murphy of O'Fallon, Mo., when she scooped the ball past the Blazer keeper from five yards out despite the fact that Beason already in the process of falling down as she accepted the pass.
Freshman Molly Cowley of Jefferson City, Mo., then added a penalty kick goal in the 67th minute after BU keeper Kelli Brewer was whistled for holding Badger senior forward Kasey Pruett of Flower Mound, Texas, with the ball in the box.
In the 73rd minute, junior Allison Akers of Houston, Texas, made it 3-0 in favor of SHC with a goal off an assist by freshman Alexandra Collier of Huntsville, Ala.
The Blazers responded in the 79th minute when MaryBeth Weber prevented the shutout with an unassisted goal.
Freshman Shelby Sullivan of Mobile's Baker High tacked on the final SHC goal of the day in the 86th minute with an assist by sophomore Savanna Sablich of Roswell, Ga.
SHC freshman goalkeeper Cassandra Amore (3-1) of Pace, Fla. took her third win of the year with three saves against 13 BU shots. The Blazers' Brewer made three saves versus 17 Badger shots in the loss.
Spring Hill (5-9, 1-1 SSAC) will travel to Montgomery, Ala., to play Faulkner University (12-2-1, 0-0-1 SSAC) on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
