The Spring Hill College volleyball team clinched no worse than a tie for the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) West Division Championship with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-13, 25-12) decision over the University of Mobile at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Thursday night.
Spring Hill dominated play from the outset as junior right side hitter Yiting Cao of Shanghai, China, scored 18 points with 16 kills and built an attack percentage of .379.
Freshman setter Taryn Nash of Independence, Mo., distributed 29 of the Badgers 32 assists and served up two aces while collecting eight digs.
As a team, the Badgers scored 45 points off 37 kills and five aces. SHC tallied 37 digs and three total blocks on defense.
Alyson Kovacs had seven of the Rams' (15-14, 5-3 SSAC) 27 kills, but Mobile committed 27 total errors for a -.066 attack percentage.
Spring Hill can win the West Division outright with a win a Belhaven University on Saturday. An SHC loss combined with a Loyola University (23-13, 5-2 SSAC) win over Faulkner University on Friday would create a tie atop the division for a co-championship.
Spring Hill (24-4, 6-1 SSAC) will wrap up the 2010 regular season at Belhaven University (9-15, 0-7 SSAC) on Saturday at 12 p.m. in Jackson, Miss.
