On Friday, November 12, the Spring Hill College volleyball team will begin play in the 2010 Southern States Athletic Conference Championship Tournament in Gulfport, Miss., as the No. 1 seed from the West Division.
As the top seeded team from the West, the Badgers (25-4, 7-1 SSAC) will open versus the East Division's No. 4 seed Columbia College (S.C.) (15-13, 4-6 SSAC) at 1:15 p.m.
All tournament matches will be played at the Jefferson Davis Campus
of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College located at 2226 Switzer Road in Gulfport.
The Badgers are led by junior right side hitter Yiting Cao of Shanghai, China, who has racked up 400 kills with 52 service aces in 87 sets this season. Freshman setter Taryn Nash of Independence, Mo., has dished out 911 assists while freshman libero Meredith Donald of Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School has pulled in 314 digs with 427 receptions.
Freshman Sha Sha Buchanan, also from McGill-Toolen has made 87 total blocks and freshman Savannah Simmons of Daphne, Ala., has stopped a total of 76 shots at the net.
A victory against the Columbia Koalas would move SHC in a semifinal contest at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday against the Shorter University/University of Mobile match.
