ROME, Ga. - The Spring Hill College women's basketball team lost a non-conference road game at Shorter University by the score of 73-56 on Friday evening.
SHC grabbed an early 6-2 lead, but a 17-0 run by the Lady Hawks over the next 8 minutes gave Shorter a 19-6 cushion with 10 minutes to go in first half.
Shorter successfully kept the Badgers at arm's length for the remainder of the first half and took a 34-21 lead into the intermission.
By the 12 minute mark of the second half, the Lady Hawks had built a 52-31 lead, but the Badgers answered back and cut the deficit to just 12 points at 56-44 with 8 minutes left in the contest.
Shorter, however, stretched the advantage back out to 20 points at 66-46 with 4:25 showing on the clock.
Freshman guard Bria Bohanon of Ponchatoula, La., and forward Sha Sha Buchanan of Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School paced the Badgers with 11 points apiece.
Ashley Harris and Robyn Foster each scored 15 points for the Lady Hawks while Kelly Ellison added 13 points.
As a team, the Badgers shot 27.3% (15-55) from the field including 46.2% (6-13) from beyond the arc and were outrebounded 37-30. SHC did manage to force Shorter into 24 turnovers off eight steals while suffering 17 turnovers in the face of five steals by the Lady Hawks.
The Hawks (7-0) did most of their damage on the inside as they went 28-of-50 from the field (56%) and outscored the Badgers 38-12 in the paint. SU was 9-of-15 (60%) from 3-point land as a team.
Spring Hill (2-3) will travel to Cleveland, Tenn., on Saturday to take on 7th ranked Lee University (4-0) at 1 p.m. (2 p.m. EST)
