CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Spring Hill College women's basketball team lost a non-conference road game at 7th ranked Lee University by the score of 78-47 at the Paul Dana Walker Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Badgers surprised the Flames early and jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead, but Lee recovered to tie the game at six before sophomore Jackie Higgenbotham of Birmingham, Ala., dropped in a 3-point bucket and freshman guard Bria Bohanon of Ponchatoula, La., added a layup to put SHC back up 11-6 just six minutes into the game.
A 12-0 run by Lee over the next five minutes would give the Flames an 18-11 advantage that grew into a 30-18 bulge with 3:17 left in the half. Too many turnovers by Spring Hill over the final three minutes dug the Badgers into a 42-18 hole as the teams headed to intermission.
Lee kept the Badgers at arm's length for most of the second half as the lead grew to as much as 67-36 with six minutes remaining.
Senior center Kimarie Bock of Dunedin, Fla., scored 11 points to lead the Badgers on offense while freshman guard Tempey Hamilton of Mobile's Murphy High School pulled in 11 rebounds. Junior forward Erica Wright from Pace, Fla., also chipped in 10 points for Spring Hill.
Angela Spann and Hollie German scored 19 and 17 points respectively for the Lady Flames. Brooke McKinnon added 10 points for Lee.
As a team, the Badgers shot 42.6% (20-47) from the field including 25% (3-12) from beyond the arc and were outrebounded 28-30. SHC committed 28 turnovers in the face of 18 steals by the quick-handed Lady Flames. SHC turnovers lead directly to 32 points by Lee.
The Flames (6-0) went 29-of-58 from the field (50%) and 10-of-27 (37%) from 3-point land as a team.
Spring Hill (2-4) will take a break for the Thanksgiving holiday before hosting non-conference rival Dillard University (3-5) on Monday, November 29, at 5:30 in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
