The Spring Hill College women's basketball team defeated the Concordia College-Selma Lady Hornets by the score of 80-50 at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Saturday evening.
The Badgers took a commanding 20-0 lead right out the gate in the first half and never looked back, taking a 50-22 advantage into the halftime locker room.
Spring Hill held as much as a 38-point cushion in the second half following a 3-point bucket by sophomore forward Jackie Higgenbotham of Birmingham that made the score 63-25 with 14 minutes left in the contest.
Freshman guard Bria Bohanon from Ponchatoula, La., led all scorers with 18 points while fellow freshman guard Tempey Hamilton of Mobile's Murphy High School turned in a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Higgenbotham pulled in a game-high 12 rebounds for the Badgers.
Senior center Kimarie Bock of Dunedin, Fla., scored 17 points while junior forward Erica Wright added 10 points for SHC.
Alexia Brown had 17 points for the Lady Hornets while Tiffany Hill had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Concordia.
Overall, the Badgers shot 53.7% (29-54) from the field including 36.8% (7-19) from beyond the 3-point line. However, Spring Hill continued to be haunted by turnovers, committing 27 in the face of 18 Hornet steals. SHC controlled the boards taking in 44 rebounds compared to 37 for the Hornets.
The Lady Hornets went 18-of-66 from the field (27.3%) and were 2-of-9 (22.2%) from 3-point land as a team. The SHC defense forced CCS into 24 turnovers with 13 steals.
Spring Hill (5-5) will next host St. Thomas University (Fla.) (3-1) beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
