The Spring Hill College men's basketball team dropped a non-conference home decision to the Tougaloo College Bulldogs by the score of 75-59 at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Saturday night.
Tougaloo came out of the gates red hot from long distance and used a 7-of-14 first-half performance from behind the arc to build a 42-32 halftime advantage after holding as much as a 17-point lead at 37-20 with six minutes left in the period.
The Bulldogs cooled off a little in the second half, but not enough to improve the situation for the Badgers as Spring Hill saw the deficit grow to as much as 21 points at 64-43 with just five minutes to go.
Junior point guard Tyler Schwab of Panama City, Fla., scored his season-high with 20 points for the Badgers including making 6-of-12 from 3-point land. Freshman guard Charles Gordon of Birmingham, Ala., scored 17 points and senior center Nick Brown of Rota, Spain, added 11 points for Spring Hill.
The hot hand of Marquise Mems of Shelby, Miss., scored 28 points for Tougaloo and drained an impressive 6-of-9 in 3-point attempts. Donteeno Todd from Memphis, Tenn., put 10 points in the buckets for the Bulldogs and James Carter of Greenville, Miss., hauled down 12 rebounds.
As a team, the Badgers shot 43.4% (23-53) and 36.8% (7-19) from 3-point territory. SHC committed just 10 turnovers while limiting Tougaloo to just six steals.
Tougaloo (11-3) was 49.2% (29-59) overall from the field and burned the Badgers for 12-of-25 (48%) during their 3-point outburst. The Bulldogs turned the ball over 12 times as the Badgers made six takeaways.
Spring Hill (5-5) will host non-conference foe Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) (4-8) on Monday at 5 p.m. at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
