The Spring Hill College women's basketball team lost a 72-57 conference decision to Loyola University (La.) by a score of 72-57 at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Thursday evening.
Loyola held a 30-21 lead at the halftime intermission and then built out as much as a 19-point advantage late in the second period with a 64-45 bulge with 4 minutes remaining.
Spring Hill had four players reach double figures in the loss led by senior center Kimarie Bock of Dunedin, Fla., with 16 points. Junior forward Erica Wright of Pace, Fla., added 12 points while freshman forward Sha Sha Buchanan of Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School and freshman guard Bria Bohanon from Ponchatoula, La., each had 10 points.
Loyola (12-4, 1-0 SSAC) was led by Keiva Council with 19 points, Jasmine Brewer with 16 points, Amy Moody with 11 points and Megen Berner with 11 points.
Spring Hill out-rebounded the Wolfpack 37-33 and committed 21 turnovers against 11 steals by Loyola. Loyola turned the ball over 18 times in the face of 11 Badger steals.
Overall, the Spring Hill shot 35% (21-60) from the field and 33.3% (4-12) from beyond the 3-point line.
Loyola shot 51.8% (29-56) from the field as a team and 30% (3-10) from 3-point land.
Spring Hill (7-11, 0-1 SSAC West) continues conference play on Saturday afternoon at home in the Outlaw Recreation Center when the Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) Lady Senators (9-8, 1-0 SSAC West) come to town for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
