MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Spring Hill College women's basketball team came up on the wrong end of a 52-49 conference road decision at Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) on Thursday night in the AUM P.E. Complex.
Spring Hill built out an early 13-6 lead over the Lady Senators (11-14, 3-5 SSAC) just seven minutes into the game but a layup by Caitlin Cunningham four minutes later gave the home team a 17-16 advantage and AUM would never trail again.
Down 30-24 at halftime, the Badgers fell down by as much as nine points with six minutes to play at 44-35, but rallied to cut the deficit to four points at 49-45 with just one minute remaining.
Junior forward Erica Wright of Pace, Fla., cut the score to 51-49 with 17 seconds showing, but Haley McIntyre dropped in one-of-two free throws for AUM and the Badgers' failed to convert a final game tying 3-pointer as the clock expired.
SHC freshman guard Bria Bohanon of Ponchatoula, La., converted for 15 points to lead all scorers and fellow freshman Sha Sha Buchanan of Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School added 13 points and nine rebounds.
Three Senators broke into double digits led by Courtney Thacker with 13 as Carlie Ainsworth and Cunningham both contributed 10 points. McIntyre collected 10 AUM rebounds for the game high.
Spring Hill shot 34.5% (19-55) overall and 23.5% (4-17) from 3-point territory while turning the ball over just seven times and taking down 33 rebounds.
AUM shot 36.8% (21-57) from the field and was just 2-of-13 (15.4%) in 3-point attempts. The Lady Senators committed 12 turnovers and pulled in 45 rebounds.
The Spring Hill winless skid grew to six games with the loss.
